Art Endowment Recipients
Art Endowment
Today's WOW Wednesday celebrates the next steps in enhancing art education in this amazing District.
As you may recall, the Logan City School District Board of Education, upon gathering several pieces of art owned by the District, auctioned a few pieces and established an Art Endowment for enrichment experiences for students and teachers of the District. It was our honor today to visit the recipients of the first art enhancement grants made possible through this endowment. We wanted to share this with you and our community and look forward to enhancing art experiences on many levels for decades to come. I have attached a press release with detailed information. I also have some pictures of the recipients as we surprised them in their classes today. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Logan City School District awarded the first round of Art Enhancement Endowment grants
In October 2018, the Logan City School District Board of Education established an Art Enhancement Endowment created from funds generated from the sale of art pieces owned by the District. The intent of this Endowment is to enhance art education experiences for the students and teachers of the Logan City School District. The grant committee for this endowment met, reviewed applications, and on December 17, 2019, it was our privilege to award the first three grants using funds generated from this endowment.
• Rebecca Hales is a Logan High student who was selected to represent Logan High School as part of the 2020 High School Honors Performance Series. She will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York in January. We know that she will be a wonderful representative of this community and are thrilled to assist her in this experience.
• Heather Fairbank and Andrea Melnick are Kindergarten teachers at Hillcrest Elementary. They stated, “In Kindergarten, writing begins with drawing. After students are comfortable with drawing detailed narrative elements, they begin to add words to their pictures.” We are confident that this grant for specific art supplies will strengthen these students’ fine motor abilities and help them to become more confident in their self-expression and written communication.
• Monica Alvizures is the music specialist at Adams Elementary. She works closely with Mr. Tom Papiernik and Mr. Dave Gilbert to create cross-curricular experiences in music and dance for the students of Adams Elementary. Together they will be incorporating a folk dance curriculum to help students celebrate various customs and learn traditions from other cultures.
The Logan City School District and District Board of Education are committed to providing enriching art experiences for all students at every grade level. We look forward to utilizing this endowment to enhance these experiences and be sure they are available for years to come.
